A Little Sunday Night Update...

Hola!
Morale is still high in the city of Sevilla.  Sometimes we feel like we are at camp.  Or in high school because we are at school from 10:00 to 3:00 every day with the same people.  But we are becoming a nice closeknit little group! You sure learn a lot about people when you spend every waking moment with them in close quarters.

I am understanding and speaking a lot of  Spanish, but sometimes it is hard to understand because Sevillians cut off the end of their words a lot.  For example, today an old lady stopped us in the street and beckoned me over and started pointing and talking really fast about some house.  She then latched on to my arm and walked me back across the street, where she kept trying to explain and started making ¨meow¨ or as they say here¨miau¨ noises like a cat.  Finally I just told her I´m sorry, but I´m quite confused and she said goodbye.  It was a very entertaining encounter.

Also, it has come to my attention that a few of my nonspanish speaking friends are developing curious Spanish accents.  Haley often replies to people by saying either ¨Ah, Si, si, si!¨ or ¨Lo siento!´´  ...Even when people talk in English to her.

We have found that this city is in love with ham and olive oil.  There are pig legs hanging everywhere, sometimes in groups of at least 50, in the grocery store, in restaurants and of course meat shops.  Laura is now a vegetarian.

Katrina and I are going to start reading a Spanish novel to see if we can do it.  It would help increase our vocabulary and seems like a fun challenge.  If you are reading this Kahli, I know you are probably  making fun of me right now.  Haha.  Actually, you probably aren´t reading it.

We´re going to Granada on Friday to kick off our travels!  Apparently they have great skiing there, but I don´t know if we are skiing or not.  We also signed up for a trip to Cadiz in mid-February for Carnival which sounds really fun.  We are supposed to dress up in costumes and it´s on the beach!

This week we are going to try to do some more exploring around the city.  The city is pretty shut down on Sundays.  Some restaurants are open but no shops.  The city is 90% Catholic, so it makes sense.

We are all loving life...making friends, being explorers, sometimes we feel like our lives are kind of unreal here!

Hasta luego!
